Is it for you?

Who might benefit from a vitamin B12 injection?

Low B12 or related symptoms

Tiredness, low energy, pins and needles, or poor concentration can all be associated with low vitamin B12 levels.

Vegan & vegetarian diets

Vitamin B12 occurs naturally in animal products, so people following vegan or strict vegetarian diets can find it harder to get enough from food alone.

Absorption difficulties

People who have had weight loss surgery, or who have conditions affecting how the gut absorbs nutrients, may not absorb B12 well from diet or tablets.

Certain long-term medicines

Some medicines taken over a long period can affect how much B12 your body absorbs. Our pharmacist will review what you take.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a vitamin B12 injection cost?
£29.99, which covers the suitability assessment, the injection and aftercare advice. There are no extra charges on top.
How often would I have one?
It depends on why you’re having it and how you respond. Maintenance injections are commonly given every few months, and our pharmacist will advise on a schedule that suits you at your appointment.
What are the possible side effects?
Most people have none. The most common are mild and temporary — soreness, redness or slight swelling where the injection was given. Less commonly, people report mild nausea, headache, dizziness or itching. Allergic reactions are rare but possible; we’ll ask about allergies beforehand. Seek urgent medical help if you develop a rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing.
Is it suitable for everyone?
No. It isn’t suitable if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients, and we’ll ask about your medical history, medicines, and whether you’re pregnant or breastfeeding before proceeding. If we don’t think the service is right for you, we’ll say so and explain why.
I’ve been diagnosed with B12 deficiency — should I come here instead of my GP?
No. If your GP arranges your B12 injections on the NHS, please continue with those — this private service isn’t a replacement for NHS treatment.
I think I might be deficient. Can I just book an injection?
We’d recommend seeing your GP for blood tests first. Starting injections before testing can mask a deficiency and make it harder to diagnose the underlying cause. We’ll always tell you if we think testing should come first.
Do you offer this at your other branches?
Our sister pharmacies in Buckfastleigh and Chudleigh offer the same core services. Availability can vary by branch, so it’s worth ringing ahead.
Already diagnosed with B12 deficiency? If your GP arranges your B12 injections on the NHS, please continue with those — this private service isn’t a replacement. And if you have symptoms that might mean an undiagnosed deficiency, we’ll recommend you see your GP for blood tests first rather than starting injections here.
