What we can treat

Seven common conditions, treated on the spot

Under the NHS Pharmacy First scheme, our pharmacist can assess and treat the following conditions — including supplying prescription-only medicines where appropriate — without you needing to see a GP first.

Sore throat Age 5+

Assessment of painful, scratchy or swollen throats, with treatment or antibiotics supplied where clinically appropriate.

Earache Ages 1–17

Ear pain in children and young people, assessed in our consultation room with treatment provided where suitable.

Sinusitis Age 12+

Blocked, painful sinuses lasting longer than usual — we can advise on relief and supply treatment where needed.

Infected insect bites Age 1+

Bites or stings that have become red, swollen, hot or painful can be assessed and treated promptly.

Impetigo Age 1+

A common, contagious skin infection causing sores and blisters — quick treatment helps stop it spreading.

Shingles Age 18+

A painful, blistering rash — early assessment matters, as antiviral treatment works best when started quickly.

Uncomplicated UTIs Women 16–64

Urinary tract infections in women aged 16–64 can be assessed and treated with antibiotics where appropriate.

Not sure it fits?

Come in anyway — our pharmacist can advise on a huge range of minor illnesses, and will refer you to your GP or another service if that's the right place for you.

The consultation is free on the NHS and no appointment is needed — just walk in. If medicine is supplied, normal NHS prescription charges apply unless you're exempt.

Common questions

Pharmacy First FAQs

Do I need an appointment?
No — just walk in during opening hours and ask for a Pharmacy First consultation. You'll be seen in our private consultation room.
Is it really free?
The consultation itself is free on the NHS. If the pharmacist supplies a medicine, standard NHS prescription charges apply unless you're exempt (for example, children, over-60s, and those with exemption certificates).
What if I need something the pharmacist can't provide?
If your symptoms need a GP, or something more urgent, we'll say so and point you to the right service straight away — you won't be left to work it out yourself.

Feeling under the weather?

Walk in any time we're open and ask for a Pharmacy First consultation — you'll be seen in our private consultation room, usually within minutes.
