Not eligible for a free NHS COVID-19 vaccine this autumn? You can now have a private COVID-19 vaccination at Ashburton Pharmacy, 8 North Street, Ashburton, Devon.
Who is this for?
The NHS COVID-19 programme is targeted at those at highest risk, which this season generally means people aged 75 and over, residents of care homes for older adults, and people aged 6 months to 74 with a weakened immune system. That leaves a lot of people who would still like the protection but don’t qualify.
A private jab may suit you if you:
- fall outside the current NHS eligibility criteria but want to be protected
- are travelling, or have travel coming up, and want cover beforehand
- live with or care for someone who is clinically vulnerable
- work in a setting with a lot of public contact
- simply prefer not to wait
Already eligible on the NHS? Don’t pay.
If you qualify for a free NHS COVID-19 vaccination, there is no need to pay for a private one — and we would rather you didn’t. We deliver NHS COVID-19 and flu vaccinations here too, and you can book your NHS appointment with us through the NHS website. When it asks for a site near where you’d like your appointment, enter TQ13 7QD to find us.
Not sure which applies to you? Give us a ring and we’ll help you work it out before you book anything.
What happens at your appointment
You’ll have a short suitability check with our team — we’ll ask about your health, any allergies and any recent vaccinations — and then the vaccine is given in our private consultation room. The whole visit usually takes around 10 to 15 minutes, including a short wait afterwards.
Most people experience nothing worse than a sore arm for a day or two. Some report mild tiredness, headache, aching muscles or a slight temperature, which usually settles within a couple of days. We’ll go through what to look out for before you leave.
Can I have my flu jab at the same time?
In many cases yes, and it saves a second trip. Private flu vaccination is £24.99, and NHS flu vaccination is free if you’re eligible. Our pharmacist will confirm what’s appropriate for you when you book or arrive. Full details are on our flu and COVID-19 vaccinations page.
Busy? Try our sister branches
